Citi Lyts brother was well-known rapper ProKid who passed away in 2018 after suffering a seizure. He was only 37 years old.

ProKid was lauded as a major contributor to the South African hip-hop scene through hits such as Woz’uzobabona, Sekele and Wild West Through. He is also celebrated for promoting African languages in his music when it was not fashionable to do so.

The loss of his brother reportedly weighed heavy on Citi Lyts, who apparently went on a downward path after his death but managed over the years to get himself back up.

Just like his brother, Citi Lyts helped push and grow local hip-hop, such as organising talent search competitions for up-and-coming artists in the hip-hop, Amapiano and Afro Trap genres. The lucky winner got the chance to work with the DJ and record a music video for their single.
